ARTIST NOTES: ‘Missive to Mondrian’ is one of a series of artworks inspired by Piet Mondrian, in a series I call, ‘Wrongdrian’: a contraction of the words ‘wrong-Mondrian’. The painting is an abstracted letter written to Mondrian arguing the case for the secondary colours over the primary colours, and using the strictly horizontal and vertical lines that he expounded in his series of compositions with red, blue, and yellow. This is the quintessential example from my work that employs structure and rigidity to criticise the very structure, rigidity, and convention that serves only to strangle my own creativity and expression.
This work is an original acrylic on deep-edge stretched canvas, and comes ready to hang with 3 layers of UV protective non-yellowing clear varnish. It is signed and titled on the rear.
